Following congressional lobbying, the name was changed to Veterans Day in 1954. The date was shifted to October at one point, but most people ignored this and continued to commemorate Veterans Day on November 11th; therefore, it was returned to November 11th.

For their patriotism, love of country, and readiness to serve and sacrifice for the greater good, we commemorate and pay tribute to America’s soldiers.

Veterans Day and Memorial Day are not the same things. Veterans Day recognizes all past and present military personnel, focusing on those who are still alive. Memorial Day, on the other hand, honors those who died while serving in the military or as a result of combat injuries.
